Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, has been found in many food products, raising concerns about its presence in the food supply. Studies have detected glyphosate residues in foods like hummus, crackers, tortillas, and even in organic products, indicating that it can contaminate food through various means, including drift from nearby fields or shared equipment.46
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) found glyphosate in 90 percent of conventional hummus brands they sampled, with a third exceeding their limit for healthy dietary exposure.6 Even some organic brands tested positive for glyphosate residues.
Glyphosate is used extensively in agriculture, particularly with glyphosate-resistant crops like corn and soybeans.
As of October 2024, Monsanto has reached settlement agreements in nearly 100,000 Roundup lawsuits. Monsanto paid approximately $11 billion. Bayer has accomplished this by negotiating block settlement arrangements with plaintiffs’ lawyers who have significant cases in the litigation… and by settling with plaintiffs before trial.
