Canada does not have a Canadian gun problem, it has an illegal US gun problem. Banning guns from law abiding citizens only leaves them unarmed and criminals armed and police Chiefs across Canada agree.
Testifying before the Commons public safety committee on Tuesday, Toronto Police Deputy Chief Myron Demkiw said that of the crime guns last year that investigators could trace, 86 per cent were smuggled into Canada from the United States — a trend he said has been on the increase since 2019.
“Our problem in Toronto are handguns from the United States,” he said in response to Conservative MP Raquel Dancho’s question about the Trudeau Liberals’ nearly billion-dollar federal buy-back program — one that would allow legal gun owners to turn in so-called military-style assault rifles banned by Ottawa a year-and-a-half ago.
“The issues around investing in what you described is certainly not going to deal with the crime problem we’re facing in Toronto, as it relates to the use of criminal handguns.”
Nova Scotia Tragedy used by Trudeau and RCMP to Push Gun Confiscation
In Nova Scotia, a gunman, posing as a police officer, killed 22 people, including an RCMP officer, in the province of Nova Scotia. The suspect died in a stand-off with police. Court records released by the commission show police found five firearms in the gunman’s possession. Three were traced back to the USA. The remaining guns were a rifle he received from a New Brunswick friend’s estate, and an RCMP-issued service pistol taken from victim Const. Heidi Stevenson.
Trudeau exploited the event to push his gun ban laws, but forgot to mention that the guns were Illegal. most were USA illegal guns, one he possessed illegally and one was the police officers gun that gunman took. The gunman also was not licensed to own a gun.
The head of the RCMP, the federal police force, was accused of pressuring local officers to help advance the Trudeau government’s gun control plans.
Most illegal handguns come from the U.S.
The U.S. is the source of anywhere from 70 to 99 per cent of the guns — mostly handguns — used in Canadian crimes. Francis Langlois, a firearms policy expert in Trois-Rivières, Que., said police there have said 80 to 85 per cent of crime-related handguns in the province come from the U.S.
“Tightening regulation for legal guns doesn’t have a lot of impact on illegal guns.”
Definition change at the RCMP, increases the appearance of gun crimes
The RCMP have abandoned the traditional definition of “crime guns” that was limited to violent crimes), expanding the definition to include administrative crimes as well as violent crimes. This new definition exaggerates the numbers of “crime guns” and has been used to justify cracking down on those who simply forget to renew his or her PAL license.
This give a VERY distorted statistic of Canadian gun crimes and is a fraudulent propagandist move to scare Canadians. So DID GUN CRIME INCREASE? We do not really know now.
Facts are legal gun owners in Canada are not the problem, and taking guns away from law abiding citizens protects no one and only takes away rights. The only ones that benefit from gun ban is THE CRIMINALS!
Well one other group benefits…… Socialists, Communists and Fascists….. it is always the very first action the do is to unarm the citizens. Germany, China, The Soviet Union, North Korea all took away guns early in their rise to power. It is part of the socialist playbook and Trudeau follows it.
The Lie That Australia’s Gun Laws Reduced Gun Homicides
We can clearly see that firearm death rates began falling before the reforms and buybacks took place, as Melham said. Australian Bureau of Statistics data show that the annual rate of gun deaths fell from 5 per 100,000 in 1980 to 2.7 per 100,000 in 1995. Gun ban started in 1996.
Gun crimes in Australia had already been declining for decades.
