To have a free society you need FREE SPEECH. Over the past three years free speech is under attack and we are looking more like China, Russia, Cuba and North Korea. Free speech nations like Canada, USA, Ireland, France and the UK have taken a new direction to authoritarian laws on free speech! But to go further, the government is censoring Americans during election times for the benefit of one party. That goes against everything democracy stands for.
Some may say that is an exaggeration, so lets take a look at what is happening.
USA
Smith–Mundt Act Amended by Barak Obama to legalize propaganda on Americans
The Act was developed in 1948 to regulate broadcasting of programs for foreign audiences produced under the guidance by the State Department, and it prohibited propaganda to be used on Americans. The Act was amended by the Smith–Mundt Modernization Act of 2012 by Obama which allowed for propaganda materials produced by the State Department and the Broadcasting Board of Governors to be used on the American people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith%E2%80%93Mundt_Act
The FBI now monitors social media of all Americans.
Canada
A government watchdog has determined that Canada’s ultra-secret electronic spy agency unlawfully targeted citizens during the previous year. CSEC is forbidden from spying on Canadians no matter where they are in the world. It is also prohibited from eavesdropping on individuals within Canada.
The conclusions, which were presented in a report on Wednesday in Parliament by retired judge Robert Decary, are especially shocking in light of recent disclosures made public by whistleblower Edward Snowden regarding extensive government spying on American citizens.
Bill C-10 requires broadcast regulators to monitor content on a wide range of Canadian online platforms, including podcasts, websites, and online videos. And again the Government will decide what content is not allowed. Former CRTC commissioner Peter Menzies said in an interview that Bill C-10 “doesn’t just infringe on free expression, it constitutes a full-blown assault upon it and, through it, the foundations of democracy.”

Ireland
In Ireland, the Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill is at the third stage of the Irish Senate. The bill seeks to criminalize what it calls “incitement to violence or hatred against a person or a group of persons on account of certain characteristics”, which refers to race, gender, religion, and “descent”. Of course the government will decide what is “incitement” and “hatred” as it is not clearly defined.
Despite Ireland’s common law tradition of innocent until proven guilty, the legislation places the onus on the accused to prove he or she did not intend to distribute the hateful material in public. As such, Ireland’s police force, An Garda Síochána, will have the authority under the bill to raid the home of the possessor of such material, demand their password and seize their devices. Failure to comply could result in a year-long prison sentence.
