Are all the Bees really dying?

About a third of what we eat is pollinated by honey bees. There are other insects besides honey bees that also pollinate plants such as flies, beetles, and other bees. For example there are 500 different bees in Minnesota.

Honey bees are dealing with many natural stressors in the environment specific to them such as varroa mites and hive beetles. However, the indiscriminate use of insecticides such as the neonicotinoids and habitat loss are problems that are reducing the populations of all the pollinators.

Despite the wide use of toxic insecticides, Bee keepers are keeping the bee numbers up.

The headlines paint a bleak picture.

I doubt many people would not support less pesticides and chemicals in our food chain, so we must strive to use more environmental solutions that are bee friendly.
